In 2003, the United States President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity.
This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.
The PVSA has continued under each administration, honoring the volunteers who are using their time and talents to solve some of the toughest challenges facing our nation.
Led by the AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light, this program allows Certifying Organizations to recognize their most exceptional volunteers.
OPYC offers dozens of activities in our Olmos Park community where members can earn service hours.
OPYC’s PVSA service year runs September 1-August 31 annually. The last day to report non-OPYC service hours is Sept. 15. OPYC will run reports and apply for awards for those who qualify by Sept. 30.
In order to qualify for OPYC to include a member’s service hours in PVSA award report, Members must complete a minimum of 15 OPYC service hours and provide any evidence of non-OPYC community service.
Some schools include PVSA award information on a student’s transcript. Please confirm with your school.
